"HackCville provides an awesome community of talented and passionate peers and a welcoming clubhouse in which to do work or hang out. Overall, it's an awesome community filled with bright people who like to get shit done, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for exactly that."

Learn design principles and the Adobe Creative Suite

Vector is a 10-week program that focuses on learning hard skills with Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign - as well as soft skills for basic graphic design and branding. Through a rotation of workshops with hands-on learning and reviews, this program will introduce the iterative and reflective process of design.

Practice through real-world projects

Throughout the program, you'll work on hands-on projects within the local community to put your skills into practice. Projects will range from resume design, logo design, poster design, gif creation, and more. By the end of the program students will have developed their own personal design style and be comfortable using design software to create high quality products.

"HackCville opened me to a whole new way of thinking about myself, my skills, and my career goals. It also introduced and exposed me to a whole new group of insanely talented, driven, and inspiring people that have supported me and provided me with amazing opportunities."
- Amanda Coombs, HackCville Member
"My favorite part about HackCville is learning a new skill with a group of like-minded but unique peers. The community feel and new friends are just the icing on the cake to the phenomenal program I was in this semester. I feel like I have skills I can continue using during college, (hopefully) in the workplace, and for my own enjoyment in years to come."
- Kaleigh Watson, HackCville Member

Meeting Times

Vector meets twice a week, once as an entire class on Sundays 1-2:30pm + Tuesdays 7:30-9:30pm, and a second time in a small group. (Those meeting times are flexible as they're set by the small group you'll join.) All programs meet starting January 30 through late April.

All sections of all programs (including Vector) start January 30.

You must be able to attend each session. More than a few missed meeting times will result in being dropped from HackCville.

A $110 course fee is due within 5 days of acceptance into the course.

There is an additional $60 materials fee per student for Vector, due at the beginning of the program. This will cover the cost of Adobe Creative Cloud for the duration of the program. If you already have Creative Cloud you do not need to pay the materials fee. If you are interested in Vector but cannot afford the materials fee, we still encourage you to apply -- we are able to provide financial aid.

These fees can be reduced or waived for those with financial need, no questions asked.

Skills courses are high commitment. In our application process we look for extremely committed, reliable students who are hungry for an intensive challenge. We want people who intend on becoming active, contributing members of the HackCville community.

Any UVA student (grad or undergrad) or Charlottesville resident +18 may apply.

Application Process

Our application process is three steps:
