Exposure

An immersive, 10-week program hosted by HackCville

Applications Open 08/25/2019
"My favorite part about HackCville is learning a new skill with a group of like-minded but unique peers. The community feel and new friends are just the icing on the cake to the phenomenal program I was in this semester. I feel like I have skills I can continue using during college, (hopefully) in the workplace, and for my own enjoyment in years to come."
- Kaleigh Watson, HackCville Member

Develop skills and apply them through hands on experience

Exposure is a 10-week program for students interested in learning storytelling through digital photography. Students will learn photography using Nikon and Canon DSLRs and photo editing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Projects in portraiture, landscape, journalistic photography and more will provide students with hands-on experience.

Publish real projects on your own portfolio website

Graduates of Exposure will have extensive knowledge and skills in digital photography. You'll also complete three short-term projects and one semester-long project that will be published to a personal photography portfolio website that we'll help you set up.

"Getting to know the people in the community has been by far the best aspect of my time at HackCville. It is motivating and inspiring to be surrounded by those who are constantly hustling while also trying to innovate in whatever they are doing."
- Tyler Wagner, HackCville Member
"There are a lot of different programs at HackCville, so at least one of them is likely to pique your interest and help you develop skills in an area where you might not be able to or have the resources to explore it at UVa. "
- Rawan Abdelrahman, HackCville Member

There is an additional $40 materials fee due at the beginning of the program. This will cover the cost of Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop, a personal SD card for the program, and a few other small items. If you are interested in Exposure but cannot afford the materials fee, we still encourage you to apply.

These fees can be reduced or waived for those with financial need, no questions asked.
