Rodney Mullen: The Motivational Skater

Skateboarding icon Rodney Mullen sits down with The Pioneer to share some of the insights gained from his decades in the skate industry.

Known as one of the most influential skaters of all time, Mullen has been at the sport’s forefront since the late 1970’s. But despite inventing the flat-ground ollie and dozens of other influential tricks, Rodney Mullen doesn’t see himself as a star or an icon. For him, the sport and community are more important than any individual distinction.

It is this humble demeanor and genuine passion for skateboarding that make Mullen one of the most inspiring athletes in extreme sports. Today, decades after becoming a professional, he shares his innovative spirit with diverse audiences across the country as a motivational speaker. Outside of the auditorium, Rodney Mullen is still churning out progressive tricks like he has been for the last 35 years.
