Aspen Miller: Artist, Director, Activist

Third-Year Drama Major and Arts Scholar Aspen Miller uses art to fuel his activism.

Aspen Miller is a Third Year Drama Major with a focus on film, directing, and video art. He is the Executive Producer of LabShorts (Virginia Players’ Film Branch) and is currently directing a three part neo-noir webisode series exploring college rape culture. He is also the Drama Representative of the Miller Arts Scholars.

Needless to say, Aspen wears many hats as a growing artist. I sat down with my fellow Arts Scholar and asked him: “Why are you so involved in the arts? What is art to you?” Aspen’s response: “Every day I question whether I want to be an artist. Every single day. But  that question that comes into my mind every day is very quickly answered in the fact that I cannot not do art; I kind of need to… I really have never known anything else.”

The intention and purpose behind Aspen’s work is what makes him an activist and pioneer in the arts. Watch this video to check out how.
