HC Leadership Opportunities

Lead and learn this fall at HackCville.

Most new members pursue leadership opportunities at HackCville after their first course (or after graduating Launch). It’s a great chance to give back and continue to learn and grow.

Leadership at HackCville looks different than most places: all roles are a hybrid of leading and learning new skills. View all available roles we’re hiring for below.

Our mission and method

We teach the skills needed for today’s fast-changing world. Over 1,000 students learn everything from user experience design to entrepreneurship to software development with us each year. Together, we’re building the skillsets and networks of our students so that they can make an impact wherever they go next.

All open roles

Any student who graduates a Course or Launch is eligible to apply.

Coordinator Positions
Great for New Members
These are the first step to joining the leadership of HackCville. Apps close 4/19.

Manager Positions
Great for Returning Members
Once you’ve served as a coordinator, you are eligible to join the HC team as a paid staff member. Apps close 4/12.

HackCville’s secret sauce: student leaders, instructors, and operators.

Some people think it’s crazy that students teach our courses. We think it’s the best way to learn. It’s easier (and more fun!) to learn from someone who’s like you, someone who’s self-motivated to stay up-to-date on the latest tools and trends, and someone who knows the challenges you’ll face because they’ve been there

This “near-peer” model powers our courses, Launch, trips, and our leadership. Our leaders learn how to design, launch, and manage programs from peers, just as our students do when they learn data science or design.

This model is also what enables us to create professional, high-quality programs at a ridiculously low cost. This keeps our programs open and accessible to students from all backgrounds. We are hell-bent on helping all students who want to invest in their future with us. Whatever team you join, you will have a big hand in making that happen.

Together, we’re building a community of kickass makers and creators who are prepared to solve the world’s big problems. We’d love for you to join us.

Job Benefits

Personalized Mentorship
Your manager is there to help guide you through your role and provide the mentorship and feedback you need to grow personally and professionally. We also facilitate introductions to key alumni in our network for further mentorship (and career) opportunities.

Social Events
We love to hang out together. We get together for team lunches, drinks, pregames, Bodo’s on the Lawn, hikes, staff retreats, and more. Leadership also gets a free HC t-shirt, auto-acceptance into trips, and priority consideration for Launch.

Job Flexibility
We offer many of the benefits of working for a fast-growing startup. Outside of team (or course) meeting times, your hours are flexible, and you don’t have to come in to HC for your work. If you get your job done, communicate regularly with your team, and work hard, we’re happy.

Don’t want to join leadership?

Here’s how else you can stay involved. Signup for all of these opportunities will come in late April.

1) Impact Program

Work on 3-week service projects for local non-profits in data, UX, marketing, and design. Work on one or several, depending on your interest and availability. Details coming soon.

If you want to help run a project, not just participate, you should apply for the Sprint Coordinator position above.

2) Keep learning in an HC Course

Level up your skills in a new area. Course meeting times and registration will begin in mid-April. If you want to sign up, there’s nothing you need to do until then. Explore available courses.

3) Take some (new!) Crash Courses

Take one (or a bunch!) of 2-hour workshops to get a taste of a new skill (or an advanced topic). They’re free for members, and you can participate even if you’re involved in another program. Details announced soon.

Membership Perks

All members (not just leadership) get:

  • discounted Skills Courses (25% off) and early enrollment
  • free access to all Crash Courses
  • priority application status for Launch
  • access to our clubhouse and coworking spaces
  • …and a whole host of other perks.

$50 dues each semester keeps your membership at HackCville active, and includes all the perks above.
