About The Pioneer

10448228_10205586671452765_5824135208479412103_nThe Pioneer is the online publication of HackCville. HackCville offers ten 12-week programs that teach modern skills through fun, hands-on projects in a fast-paced, community-driven environment.

All of our producers are either current students or graduates of HackCville’s media education programs, Storyboard (video) and Exposure (photography). Our student writers and producers develop skills in modern media production through publishing stories about creative, civic, and entrepreneurial innovators in the University of Virginia and greater Charlottesville community. You can view all of our current student staff and their published stories below.

Students learn storytelling, video production, photography, social media, and digital publishing. The Pioneer also hosts trips to NYC and DC to tour media companies such as BuzzFeed, NBC, and VICE.

Applications to join Storyboard, Exposure, and other HackCville programs will open on January 18. If you’re interested, we strongly recommend signing up for our newsletter here. You’ll be first to know when our applications launch.

Matt Korbon is the Program Lead for Storyboard, and Sarah Dodge is the Program Lead for Exposure. If you have any questions about the content of these programs, you can email them at matt@hackcville.com or sarah@hackcville.com.
