Launch Bootcamp Curriculum

Launch is an immersive 9-week program that covers two major topics:

  1. Deep skills training in marketing, UX design/front-end, or data science
  2. Professional development and network building

The program starts Monday, June 12. For the first 3 weeks the program is 20 hours / week, and the assignments can mostly be completely remotely. You will meet with the HackCville staff in-person a few times a week.

The next 6 weeks are much more intensive and immersive. You'll meet at HackCville's awesome coworking spaces each weekday 8am-5pm starting on July 3 and ending on August 11. (Learn more about our fun and functional spaces here.)

Part 1/2: Deep Skills Training

You'll pick one of three tracks to immerse yourself in, each led by a cohort of expert instructors.

Track A: Design & Digital Marketing

"The Valley skill set that should be in highest demand and greatest scarcity is neither engineering nor design, but rather internet marketing." - Dave McClure, Founder, 500Startups

In the Full Stack Marketing Track we aim to teach a combination of art, design, tools, and strategies that make digital marketing a compelling field for study and employment. You'll get trained on the marketing concepts used by some of the most compelling internet companies by people who've done it. Comparable programs cost $10,000 just for this portion of the program.

Here's what you'll learn.

This is an intensive program centered on teaching the tools and mindset you'll need to launch real, integrated, digital marketing programs. You'll learn how marketing is combined with product development, usability, and customer lifetime value to create amazing programs that cut through clutter and make a difference.

Here's what you'll walk away with.

You'll leave with the tools and tactics to launch online products. You'll be well versed in the Adobe Creative Suite, email marketing software, marketing concepts and jargon, lifetime customer value analysis, data analysis, social media campaign creation and management, search engine optimization, and growth hacking strategies. It is our aim that after completing this program you could be a key member of a startup marketing team or well paid digital marketing consultant.

Track B: Data Science

We are flooded with data. Companies are flooded with even more of it. Making sense of data and predicting future trends is one of the most in demand skills on the planet. Come learn why data scientists have "the world’s best job."

In the Data Science Track we aim to teach the art and science of finding, cleaning, understanding, storing, manipulating and visualizing data. Further, we hope you'll go farther and learn how to deploy neural nets and use machine learning to solve real problems. You'll get trained on data science techniques used by people at the forefront of this in-demand industry. Comparable programs cost $10,000 just for this portion of the program.

Here's what you'll learn.

This is an intensive program centered on teaching the tools and mindset you'll need to find, clean, understand, and manipulate data. You'll learn how to create predictive models used by organizations of all types. Utilizing Python and R, you will be able to create applications for everything from automating customer service to predicting customer behavior on ecommerce websites. Further, you’ll learn how to create SQL database structures and visualize data using D3.

Here's what you'll walk away with.

You'll leave with the tools and tactics manipulate large data sets in valuable ways. You'll be well versed in R, Python, statistical analysis, regression models, and predicting the future. Kidding. You will be able, though, to make compelling predictive models that help make sense of our world. It is our aim that after completing this program you could be a key member of a startup marketing, operations, or product development team.

You'll get trained on user research, prototyping, design, and web development techniques used by people at the forefront of this in-demand industry. Comparable programs cost $10,000 just for this portion of the program.

Here's what you'll learn.

You'll learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with popular frameworks for each. (While the web development track gives a brief overview of front-end languages, here you'll develop much greater mastery of these in particular.) Students will also learn basic design principles, wireframing tools, git and GitHub, and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. We'll deep dive into how to approach user research, testing, iteration, and analytics so that you can learn how to build digital experiences that delight using all of the tools and technologies you'll learn.
